Dehua Porcelain Gaiwan

$59.9

This gaiwan (lidded bowl) is crafted from porcelain clay from the Dehua kilns in Minnan, southern Fujian Province, and made to the thinnest possible thickness. It is made using the hand-printing technique, where the clay is thinly spread by hand onto a mold.

Tea ware has its own merits, whether thick or thin, and its character changes depending on the material and shape. Among the various types of tea ware, this gaiwan can be considered a pinnacle, achieving both thinness and a capacity of over 100cc.

The bowl has a flared rim, designed to dissipate heat and prevent burns during brewing. When brewing, it is highly recommended to hold the bowl by the rim.
